HMRC has been sending out letters to self-employed workers saying that their second payment on account for 2019-20 has automatically been deferred because payment wasn’t received by 31 July 2020.

Earlier this year, it was announced that taxpayers will be able to defer this payment, interest free, due to Coronavirus. Those struggling to raise the funds have up until 31 January 2021 to make the payment.

While many people have taken advantage of the extension, concern has been raised among those who didn’t defer their July tax payment but have still received a letter. It has been confirmed that the reason for this is because the receipts weren’t processed in time to beat the letters.

With this in mind, please be aware that even if you have received a letter, it doesn’t mean that your payment hasn’t gone through. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with HMRC or PKB Accountants and we’ll be able to help.
