It will come as a relief to many that HMRC has extended the deadline for the submission of 2019/20 Self-Assessment Tax Returns. The traditional 31 January deadline has been extended to 28 February and customers will not receive a penalty providing they file their return by the new date.

Customers are still being encouraged to stick to the usual deadline if they can.

You will still need to pay your bill by midnight on 31 January as HMRC will start to charge interest on outstanding payments from 1 February.

If you’re struggling to pay your tax bill this year, you may be able to set up an affordable plan with HMRC and pay in monthly instalments. Please note that you will need to submit your Self-Assessment before this can be arranged. You can find out more information about how to pay your tax bill on the gov.uk website.

If you need help submitting your tax return, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with PKB. We will also be able to provide advice if you’re worried about how you’re going to make the payment.

If we currently submit your tax return for you and you’ve provided all your information, please be assured that this is in hand and your Self-Assessment will be sent to HMRC on time.
