According to research carried out by the retail bank, Aldermore,   29% of us are aiming to set up our own business – a figure which has almost doubled in the last   year.

Are you prepared for GDPR?

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has issued concerns that small businesses are worryingly unprepared for the introduction of the new GDPR regulations which will come into effect as of the 25th of May.

Despite the fact that there’s little over a month to go and businesses face tough fines for non-compliance data breaches, 33% of SMEs haven’t done anything to prepare for GDPR and 35% have only recently started preparations.

Thinktank calls for major reform of Britain’s ‘inefficient’ tax system

The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has called for a major reform of Britain’s ‘inefficient’ tax system. It has proposed two new elements which is claims can help to make the system more progressive and efficient and also help to reduce the number of cases of tax avoidance.

Small businesses are reaping the benefits of hiring apprentices

Research carried out by AAT has found that small businesses have been embracing the benefits of hiring apprentices following the introduction of the apprenticeship levy in April 2017.

90% of businesses surveyed said the apprentices they’ve hired have helped to boost productivity and 63% said they’re more suited to the skills their company needs compared to other candidates. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the overwhelming majority of small business owners (96%) say they’re likely to take on more apprentices within the next two years.
